Afruz Amighi's work explores the often-tumultuous social and political history of Iran. Though Amighi was born in Tehran, she currently lives and works in New York [ she received her MFA from NYU in 2007]. Highlighting her own absence from the people and events of Iran, she casts a unique perspective on its history. In her series, 1001 Pages, Amighi creates intricate shadow pieces utilizing a stencil burner to hand cut thin plastic sheets used for refugee tents. Amighi was awarded the Jameel Prize in 2008 for 1001 Pages. She joins us to talk about her recent work.
